Troubleshooting: How to enable detailed IIS errors?

Follow

Problem

You have encountered a server error, and the error may not provide much information about the cause.

By default, IIS only shows very basic messages in a user's browser.

To troubleshoot a server error, you can change the error display to show a more meaningful and detailed description of the problem.

Note: This should only be used for troubleshooting and turned off after the issue is resolved.

Solution

Open the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

Search for your website on the left-hand side (1) and open “Error Pages” (2).

On the right-hand side, open “Edit Feature Settings”.

Please select the “Detailed Errors” option (1) and confirm (2).

Now, when IIS encounters an error, the error message contains much more detailed information than before.
