Problem
When you display the size of the SQL database, the message No permission appears.
Cause
The Password Secure SQL service account is missing the VIEW ANY DEFINITION permission at server level. Without it, the account cannot read the database file sizes from the system view sys.master_files.
Resolution
Grant the Password Secure SQL service account the VIEW ANY DEFINITION permission. No further permissions are needed.
- In SQL Server Management Studio, connect with an account that is allowed to grant permissions, for example an administrator.
Run the following query. Replace
[Service account]with the name of the Password Secure SQL service account, for example[DOMAIN\svc-passwordsecure]:USE master; GRANT VIEW ANY DEFINITION TO [Service account];- Display the database size again.
