Goal
You deploy the Password Secure Browser Extension to the clients using a Group Policy Object (GPO) for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge.
Prerequisites
- Basic knowledge of group policies.
- Administrator rights on the domain controller (DC).
- DC with Windows Server 2012 R2 or newer.
- Internet connection on the end devices to download the Browser Extension.
Steps
Google Chrome
-
Download the official Google Chrome ADMX policy template and unzip it on your domain controller. Copy the content, including the desired languages, from
\policy_templates\windows\admx\to%systemroot%\PolicyDefinitions. Repeat this step on each domain controller. -
Create a new group policy for Password Secure or edit an existing one. Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Google > Google Chrome > Extensions and select Configure the list of force-installed apps and extensions.
-
Enable the setting and enter the following value under Show. It consists of the ID of the Password Secure Browser Extension and the Google Chrome update URL (more information):

The Browser Extension is now rolled out to the clients with Chrome installed. Verify this via
chrome://extensions/. -
Optional: Pin the Browser Extension to the extensions bar to make it easier to use.
Mozilla Firefox
-
Download the latest release of the Firefox ADMFX policy template and unzip it on your domain controller. Copy the content, including the desired languages, from
\policy_templates_vX\windows\to%systemroot%\PolicyDefinitions. Repeat this step on each domain controller. -
Create a new group policy for Password Secure or edit an existing one. Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Mozilla > Firefox > Extensions and select Extensions to install.
-
Enable the setting and enter the download URL of the Password Secure Browser Extension under Show. You can copy the URL from the Firefox Add-On Store.
Note: The URL in the Firefox Add-On Store points to a specific version of the Browser Extension, namely the latest one at the time you copy it. Copy the URL manually and maintain it yourself: update the URL in the group policy when a new version is released.
-
The Browser Extension is now rolled out to the clients with Firefox installed. Verify this via
about:addons.
Microsoft Edge
-
Download the official Microsoft Edge policy templates and unzip them on your domain controller. Copy the content, including the desired languages, from
